Project Summary: My Dodgeball Team
This project was inspired by childhood nostalgia, vintage sports design, and animated characters. I put together a fictional dodgeball team lineup using characters with bold personalities and exaggerated traits, drawing inspiration from old hockey cards and 80s-style sports team posters.
Visually, I modeled the player cards after vintage trading cards—curved team names, bold outlines, oval frames, and character images cropped into energetic poses. Each card has a unique color combination and hover effect for movement. I applied texture using a linen background pattern and included animations.
Fonts like Bowlby One and Bebas Neue give it that playful athletic poster feel, while Quicksand balances it with modernity and readability. Each character's strengths were described to match their illustrated roles.
Overall, the goal was to create something fun and lively that shows personality through interaction and color, while still feeling like a cohesive visual system. I wanted to anchor the team with an obvious pick: a character from Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story. To make things more unexpected, I added Buddy the Elf — inspired by the snowball-attack scene from Elf, which perfectly showcases his throwing skills. The rest of the lineup is made up of animated characters, adding a playful energy to the gallery. I especially liked the idea of Road Runner serving as the team’s “runner-up.”
