From waterfront seafood to family taverns in the hills

Waterfront restaurant with sea view

Konoba Gariful

Right on the waterfront in Hvar Town, Gariful serves some of the island's best seafood. Fishing boats deliver their catch directly to the restaurant each day.

The menu changes daily based on what's fresh, with their simply grilled fish with olive oil and lemon being a standout dish. They'll often bring the whole fish to your table for inspection before cooking.

While it's one of the pricier spots on the island, the front-row seat to the harbor, passing yachts, and sunset views make it worth including in your itinerary.

Stone tavern with garden

Konoba Kokot

Tucked away in the hills near Dol, this family-run tavern offers authentic Dalmatian cooking in a centuries-old stone building with a garden terrace shaded by grape vines.

Their specialty is peka - meat or octopus slow-cooked under an iron bell covered with hot embers. The process takes hours, creating incredibly tender results. Their lamb peka is legendary but needs to be ordered at least 3 hours in advance.

Everything comes from nearby - vegetables from their garden, wine from their vineyards, and olive oil from their trees. Three generations of the same family serve authentic island cooking in this local favorite.

Location: Village of Dol, 3km from Stari Grad

Price Range: €€

Specialties: Lamb peka, homemade pasta with wild herbs

Reservations: Essential, especially for peka dishes

Beachside dining area

Divino

Built into the rocks on the eastern side of Hvar Town, Divino offers one of the most scenic dining spots on the island with terraced seating that extends to the water's edge.

The menu blends traditional Dalmatian cooking with contemporary techniques. Their black risotto gets its color from cuttlefish ink and is topped with garlic chips and orange zest. The tuna tartare with local olive oil and sea salt is equally impressive.

Arrive just before sunset to watch the sky change colors over the Pakleni Islands while enjoying a glass of local white wine. The combination of view and cuisine makes this spot popular without feeling overly touristy.

Location: Eastern edge of Hvar Town

Price Range: €€€

Specialties: Black risotto, tuna tartare, seafood platter
